In England and Wales, all installation work relating to domestic log-burning and multi-fuel stoves are subject to Building Regulations. The Approved Documents F, J, L, G, P are also applicable and most work is notifiable to the relevant Local Authority. The information notified to them is required for household insurance and for the sale of your home in the future. Where work is carried out by a HETAS Registered Installer, the installer can self-certificate their work via HETAS rather than the customer applying for a Building Notice from their Local Authority.
Although installing your own stove is possible, in many cases it is beyond the realms of a simple DIY’er and as mentioned above, all installations must follow a set of strict guidelines and regulations in order that the installation complies with current legislation and is safe for both the environment and occupants of the home. Therefore is is always recommended that you employ a HETAS Registered Installer who will ensure that the work is carried out to these standards.
